I think business is an emotion. If you are honest and dedicated it will work.
I’m Pooja Vinay founder of Indulge Cupcakes. Born in Bombay, raised and graduated in Visual communication from Chennai.
Cooking, Baking and trying out new food has always interested me. I spent about a five years on it before starting professionally. I pretty much baked every day…something or the other. Now that I look back, I left a full time job as a graphic designer and just sat back at home baking. I did that for a full 5 years. I would bake for dinner parties, friend’s baby showers, house events and every opportunity I got. I used to spend a fortune on imported baking supplies and the rest of my time daydreaming about cupcakes, gawking over baking books in bed and watching baking on television and YouTube
Indulge cupcakes is a home run baking unit. Here at Indulge Cupcakes we custom make and handcraft cakes, cupcakes and other desserts, using the finest quality ingredients which we source from all over.
One afternoon my best friend prompted me to start my own baking business and since that afternoon, life hasn’t been the same again. It’s amazing how a small idea can change one’s life from an “ordinary homemaker” into an entrepreneur (I like to call myself a momtrepreneur). I come from a very middle class family and could not afford to start a store. So, I started Facebook page which required no investment. I’m so glad I did so and I love every moment of what I do. My husband, daughter and my parents have always encouraged me and supported my ideas and tried to help me in whatever way they can.
The major challenge was, when initially people did not take it seriously, from supplier to prospective client. We had to build a trust – one order at a time, but by being patient and keeping faith, one can overcome everything! It was a slow process of building a brand through word of mouth. Coimbatore and the people of Coimbatore were very supportive and it was a great place to learn and grow.
It’s always amazing for our products to be appreciated. It was a memorable occasion when Anupam Kher shared the cupcakes baked for him on his social media account .We also enjoyed baking for Actor Neena Gupta, Director Producer Sooraj Barjatya of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Racer Narain Karthikeyan. Recently, we have crossed 25k on our Facebook which is also a proud achievement.
I would say being an entrepreneur makes me feel immensely responsible, wanting to be my best version every day, to be able to be creative and driven, independent and financially intelligent. Always chasing and setting new targets.
There are new ideas and new talent coming in every day, so as time goes we need to keep recreating apart from the regular work that we do.
Every time clients return back with their feedback and happy comments it motivates us and make all the hours of hard work totally worth it. The love from our clients and well-wishers always keeps us motivated.
