DO WHAT YOU LOVE WITH PASSION OR NOT AT ALL & IF YOU ARE MORE FORTUNATE THAN OTHERS BUILD A LONGER TABLE NOT A TALLER FENCE!

I was always a creative child since childhood and bows simply happened to me as a hobby when I grew up! I am a BSc Environment science graduate and I come from a middle class family. My dad is a retired HOD – Fire Safety Health Environment office from reliance Jamnagar.

WOI - womenpreneurs of India feature RoshiniIn my first year of college vacation, ‘cats and bows’ came into my mind.  I was casually googling about stuffs to make out from fabric and suddenly bows popped up! Since it really attracted me, I tried making few bows just for fun and I really enjoyed making them. From then, I started making few more bows and gifted it to my colleg1e friends. They really loved my creations and asked me to sell it to them. I gradually discovered that bows were slowly becoming my canvas for the creativity in me. Later, after my graduation I decided to be a full time Bow designer. I really don’t remember my first sales but I definitely remember that the people who are following me from the beginning are still my customers. Because, they believed in me and they are always with me. And now, ‘Cats and Bows’ is a one stop shop for all the bow lovers out there – we design handmade luxurious and everyday wear bows!

cab4To be honest, I would say I never faced anything I could call a difficulty. It’s just that, I noticed it was really tough in India to make people aware about value of handmade products. People find it hard to understand the pricing of handmade products. Initially, people were not ready to pay me even 150-200 rupees for bows as they thought a ‘BOW’ shouldn’t be that costly! But, gradually I started making people understand that making handmade stuff is not so easy and how it needs respect.

Gladly, I’ve built my own community who understand and support my art. Now people are happy to buy bows worth 1500 rupees too from us, because they know that the quality we provide is for what the money they spend!

cab2I consider every milestone of reaching 10K, 20K or 40K customers an achievement! I am in love with my journey and I wish to grow more and more with my beautiful Instagram family. Because of them, ‘cats and bows’ is what it is today. My Instagram family is my biggest support system at the moment. But, I wouldn’t be here if my parents had not let me do what I loved. My everyday motivation is my Instagram family who constantly shower their love for everything that I do for them!

One thing that I’ve learnt in this journey of 5 years is that, you cannot stop people from copying your designs. They are going to do it anyways. So, it is better to just focus on yourself and move forward. Let others do whatever they want to do!

cab3A lot of people know me on the gram and that makes me feel amazing as an entrepreneur. Only thing we still struggle is the pricing!  The price points – people still negotiate for the same! But, it’s in all the businesses you know!
Lastly, one thing I would like to add is “Never settle for your dreams, Do whatever it takes to make them true!”

-says Roshni.
